REVISIONIST BIOGRAPHIES…
Revisionist Biographies… consists of 154 images that were sent to me during my time as a (heavy) user of phone-based dating apps. These images were stored on my computer during a routine backup and sat there, untouched and unconsidered, for years.
Using an AI assisted content recognition software, I procedurally removed the figures and identifying features from the images – faces, places, body parts. The spaces where the figures once were, are now ghostly abstractions.
This piece was originally conceived of as an artist book. Below in a brief text written to accompany the piece in that form:
Revisionist Biographies… is a collection of 154 jpgs sent to me by men on dating and hookup apps. Some of these men I never met. Some of them I "met" a few times. Some of them I might've loved a little. But most of them, I never called again.
These images were backed up to my computer along with rest of the data on my dying iPhone 5, and then passed out of memory for years and years.
But in 2021, I found them again.
Horniness gathers dust more quickly than almost anything. Fuck! Have I ever done anything more embarrassing?
The images are looping below. Faces have been removed to protect the innocent. Bodies have been removed to preserve their privacy. The face and body shaped voids have been filled to spare me the remembering.
